BLOODRED HOURGLASS
Godsend OUT OF LINE
Finnish melodic death metallers cling to the rulebook
Despite being the fourth offering from a band 15 years into their career and bordering on the edge of being labelled ‘veterans’, Godsend adds precious little to its own genre. However, as by-the-book melodeath releases go, it is good at performing the bare minimum. The sweeping guitar leads of Devourer and Ask And You Shall Receive are energising and technically proficient. While these harmonies explore wondrous highs, the verses crash down with an apoplectic heaviness that’s at its most cathartic on early highlight The Unfinished Story. If you like your melodeath unwavering (and unsurprising), this may prove a worthwhile listen.
