ERADIKATOR

Obscura DIVEBOMB

- MATT MILLS

Nineties-inspired thrashers turn towards alt-rock melodicism

Eradikator have been beloveds of the UK thrash metal scene for most of the 2010s. Although they’re far from prolific, their first two albums were gritty, riffbased throwbacks to genre triumphs like Megadeth’s Rust In Peace and Death Angel’s Act III. Obscura marks the quartet’s first material in four years and, much like contemporaries Evile and Savage Messiah, they’ve have defected to catchier territories. Obscura is as much grunge as it is thrash, flaunting infectious hooks and slow-burning acoustic passages. Followers who have been waiting for almost five years may be disappointed, but this genre mash-up has many promising moments.
