THECITYISOURS
Low SELF-RELEASED
London metalcore crew turn up the volume on vulnerability
Having garnered quite a following since the release of their first EP, Hollow Hope, in 2017, this full-length debut sees Thecityisours stand up confidently to the promise of being one of modern metalcore’s shining lights. Based around an ideology that it’s OK to be vulnerable, Low explores a band’s journey towards self-betterment combining introspection with impassioned melodies and neck-snapping fervour. It gets off to a stirring start, the shimmering guitar lines of serene opener Ashes presenting a sense of calm then crashing headfirst into the ferocious bludgeon of single Bare Bones and evocative earworm Veins
– both of which should earn countless fists-in-the-air singalongs live. Elsewhere, soaring choruses collide with impassioned yelps and combative riffs evoking Architects at their most anthemic to push tracks like Incomplete into moodier realms. Blending vulnerability and strength, Low grows more convincing with each further listen.
