DEATH STRIKE The Truth (1991)

“Øystein used to jam this at the rehearsal space back in the day. It was the first death metal band from america that I got into. I didn’t even know the name, because metallion [author of seminal fanzine Slayer], who I got the tape from, had written the name wrong, and he’d put ‘Krieg’ in german. I read back interviews that I did in the day, people would ask me about my favourite bands, and I’d bring up this band and say ‘Krieg!’”

MORBID Disgusting Selma (1987)

“of course this has a lot of historical things to do with mayhem because it’s Dead’s old band that he used to sing in before he joined our band. It was thrash metal but it was raw and crazy, it sounded like it was on the verge of falling apart, and Dead’s vocals sounded like they were possessed. attila is probably the only other vocalist who could do them justice.”

DEATH Evil Dead (1984)

“mantas, chuck schuldiner’s pre-death band, was my other favourite death metal band next to Death strike, and although this one wasn’t my choice, I’ve always loved Death too. If you listen to the three tracks you discover that they are the original takes from the original bands, there are solos on these tracks, so this is taken from the demo version. You can still hear the thrash in it, but it has such an amazing atmosphere.”
