LINDY-FAY HELLA
Seafarer VÁN
Wardruna singer embarks on an enthralling solo voyage
Lindy-fay Hella is known for her contributions to Wardruna. Her debut album, initially a vocalsonly experiment, soon took on a life of its own, Hella inviting friends and musicians, including exEnslaved keyboardist Herbrand Larsen, to contribute. The titular opener is a vocally multilayered paean echoing across the waves that leaves you with assumptions of folky sensibilities to follow. Two Suns then smashes expectations with its modern electro-bass and upbeat tempo, blending old and new. Nåke Du Finn I Skogen’s airiness is tempered by Gaahl’s gnarled tones, its melodies linking in interesting ways with closer Horizon. Seafarer
is one of the year’s most beguiling curios, Norway yet again delivering on its ability to inspire unpredictable, otherworldly manifestations of its spiritual portent. ■■■■■■■■■■
