KOBRA AND THE LOTUS
Evolution NAPALM
Canadian melodic metallers pare down the pomp
Over the last two years, melodic power metallers Kobra And The Lotus have poured every drop of their ingenuity into their double album, Prevail I and II,
dialling the histrionics up to
11. But when you’ve hit your sonic apex, where else is there to go? On Evolution the band have changed tack completely, stripping their symphonic and classic, NWOBHM embellishments to bare-bones hard rock, with pleasing results. There’s a strong whiff of Halestorm on Burn! and huge choruses abound on We Come Undone and Wounds. Charismatic frontwoman Kobra Paige sounds completely empowered on nononsense stomper Liar,
hollering, ‘I’m here to have a hell of a time’ on the defiant Thundersmith. This is a rebirth well realised.
