The long-mooted and controversial Lords Of Chaos finally saw release

Metal’s most infamous scene finally got the big screen treatment, and attracted all the debate and controversy that you’d expect for a film about self-harm, suicide, church burning and murder. Directed by music video director extraordinaire and former Bathory man Jonas Åkerlund, Lords Of Chaos

– based on the 1998 book of the same name – fiercely split opinion in the extreme metal scene. “They made a movie of our lives and didn’t even bother to call us,” ranted Mayhem’s Necrobutcher, with many accusing Jonas of stretching the truth too thin. Nonetheless, like the scene that bore it, the film certainly made an impact.
