UNE MISÈRE
Sermon NUCLEAR BLAST
Eclectic Icelanders start to forge their own enthralling alloy
Icelandic sextet Une Misère show some serious promise on their debut album.
Sermon gobbles up all kinds of influences, from modern death metal to straight-up hardcore to alternative rock, and smashes them all together in a package that is familiar, but never generic. The middle of the record is certainly the sweet spot.
Fallen Eyes starts with a beautifully clean melodic vocal and some wailing chords and then transitions into a blastbeat-heavy rager, followed by the early-slipknot drum’n’ bass-infused groove metal of Beaten. But most of
Sermon is well worth checking out if you are a fan of the core sounds of contemporary metal. If they build on this over future releases, then we could be looking at a very good band indeed. ■■■■■■■■■■
