Founded by guitarists Franz Hellboss (Volbeat) and Mircea Gabriel Eftemie (Mnemic) and completed by members of Hatesphere, Illdisposed and Raunchy, Blood Eagle are fated to be known as a Danish death metal supergroup. Fear not; rather than trading ‘licks’, To Ride In Blood & Bathe In Greed – initially released across three episodic EPS – concerns itself with raging old-school death metal (the Bolt Thrower influence is particularly strong) filtered through a state of the art production and reinforced with grooves that by turns recall Meshuggah and Mastodon. There’s little progressive and cerebral here, though; Blood Eagle are more concerned with caveman fun than ostentatious chops. ■■■■■■■■■■
