KARYN CRISIS’ GOSPEL OF THE WITCHES
Covenant AURAL MUSIC
Underground heroine hones her occult craft
It’s been quite a ride thus far for painter, pioneer and medium Karyn Crisis. Having cut her teeth performing classical music, she then helped create some critically acclaimed releases with hardcore mob Crisis. Her journey continues here, and she’s teamed up with ex-ephel Duath bandmate Davide Tiso to make occult metal designed to empower others through “all that she’s learned from the witches of old.” Covenant is their second LP and is a more confident beast than debut Salem’s Wounds.
Reminiscent of Chelsea Wolfe at her most bloodthirsty, Womb Of The World
is a dizzying, doom-laden delight crammed with demonic growls and angelic croons, slow-burner The Hours is simple but effective while Janara is a huge standout thanks to some stellar guitar leads that soar to the skies like a witch on her broom. ■■■■■■■■■■
