OZZY HAS A BODY DOUBLE

And other fascinating theories, queries and rants you lovely people felt compelled to share with us this month MAIDEN BARCA

-

REST IN POWER

Your issue on The Rev has made me realise how many anniversaries of some lost legends we have coming up. Soon it’ll have been 10 years since we lost Ronnie James Dio, Paul Gray from Slipknot and the one and only Peter Steele from Type O Negative. We should be grateful for the icons we have while we still have them!

Dwayne Simpson (email)

We couldn’t agree more. Let’s all make a deal to never take any of the bands or artists in our world for granted, yeah?

OZZ FOR WORDS

I feel like Ozzy has to be using a body double these days. I mean how is he still out performing and traveling all the time at 70?! Man, what a legend.

Chris Furlong (Facebook)

Well, if he is hiring people to imitate him, he definitely won’t have used that fella from The

Dirt. That accent is still giving us nightmares.

What’s your New Year’s Resolution, Metal Hammer? Mine is to finally go see the mighty Iron Maiden abroad! I think I might pick Barcelona. What do you reckon?

Dave Jacobs (email)

Our New Year’s Resolution is to continue making Metal Hammer

the greatest damn heavy metal magazine in the world! Oh, and to start yoga. Apparently yoga is nice. We’re up for a Maiden road trip, though.

2020 VISION

Right, let’s put it all on the line people: what do we think is going to be the best album of 2020? I’m placing my bets on Gojira. They just seem to get better and better with each one.

Ivan Brocker (Facebook)

Alright Ivan, it’s only January, mate! We’ve barely finished arguing about our 2019 album lists and you’re out here putting us under pressure? That said, you are right, it’ll probably be Gojira. Maybe.

TOOL’S GOLD

Is it not a bit predictable that Tool, Rammstein and Slipknot dominated your albums of the year list? There’s so much great new music out there, I’m tired

of seeing the same old names on top of these charts!

Erin Simms (email)

That would be the Tool, Rammstein and Slipknot that hadn’t released albums in 13, 10 and five years, right? Those ones? We’re just playing with you: the biggest bands in the game will always dominate these things, but we were delighted to see younger names like Venom Prison, Employed To Serve, Twin Temple and many more making big moves in our Critics’ Poll. The future’s bright!

PUNCHDRUNK

What I want to know is this: if Five Finger Death Punch got together with 36 Crazyfists, would that be a 180 Finger Death Punch? Or is it one finger per hand? And while we’re at it, is 36 Crazyfists 18 people hitting with both hands, or 36 people with hitting with one hand? Or a combination thereof? It matters, because if it’s 18 you might only have an 18 Finger Death Punch, which is clearly nowhere near as impressive as where we started…

Phillip Legard (Facebook)

Cheers, we’ve just gone crosseyed.

STUCK UP

Thanks for the stickers, I’ve used them to reimagine Toy Story as a live action adult-only film [left].

Joe Lewis (email)

Thanks, Joe. This was a noble effort. What else has everyone been using their Metal Hammer stickers for recently? Show us, you wallies!

MADE IN THE 80S

There are a lot of bands that try to recreate the sound of the 80s. One brilliant example are Visigoth. They are great, but do they add anything to the genre? Should we welcome this musical cosplay? Discuss.

Marco LG (Facebook)

We’re not sure if we quite have time to delve into the semantics of lazy nostalgia vs utilising old influences to create something unique and exciting, but we are definitely nicking the term ‘musical cosplay,’ so thanks for that!

INTERGALACTIC

So happy that Metal Hammer are giving Alien Weaponry some proper attention! The best young metal band in the world - PERIOD! They’re gonna be massive and I bet they’ll make your cover one day.

Izzy Hall (email)

We love Alien Weaponry, and judging by what Dep Ed Eleanor Goodman saw when she went out to the US, the world loves Alien Weaponry too. We agree with you: this band have seriously big things in their future.
