THY ART IS MURDER

Kicking off 2020 with a deathcore dream tour featuring Carnifex and Fit For An Autopsy

Will we find any changes to your setlist in 2020?

Andy Marsh (guitar): “I’ve been diving into social media polls lately, seeing who likes what songs we haven’t played and what their dream setlist would be. Obviously we’ll be playing a lot of material from the new record; it’s made up 40% of the setlist this summer so maybe we’ll throw in a couple more in January. I’m very interested in digging up material we’ve never played live before and there’s a demand for songs I’d classify as ballads that don’t have the uptempo party vibe, Fur And Claw and Naked And Cold, so we’re gonna give it a shot!”

Which of you guys has the worst tour bus habits?

“Sean Delander [guitar] brings random people on the bus, he parties until 6am every day. It’s like Mötley Crüe contained within a six-foot perimeter of him. The rest of us have matured and aged gracefully… I think. Normally we’ll finish a show, have a couple of drinks, hop in the shower and then we’re off to bed. He’s the only rogue guy that goes bananas!”

What’s the strangest thing you’ve seen at a Thy Art show? “We were about to walk on stage at Bloodstock this year and my partner said, ‘Oh my god, look over there,’ and there was someone in the crowd waving gigantic leeks, one in each hand, like they were directing aircraft. What was the security guard thinking when this person came through the gate in the morning? ‘Tickets, empty your pockets… these are leeks, what are they for? Are you grilling them for a fricassee? What the fuck are you bringing leeks into a metal festival for?’”

You’ve toured with the likes of Architects and Parkway Drive – which of all your tourmates were the hardest to drink under the table?

“Architects don’t drink but Sammy Carter’s a lightweight anyway. It definitely isn’t Parkway Drive because they don’t drink, but it’d be the vibe of a bunch of metalcore dads having beers on the golf course, nothing crazy would happen. We toured with Goatwhore in 2014; I’m pretty sure their guitarist Sammy Duet hasn’t gone more than an hour without a drink in about 25 years. He’s a psycho, that dude’s the real deal.”
