TWIN TEMPLE
The Satanic doo-wop duo are here to convert the UK with their catchy, swinging sermons
What can fans expect from your live shows?
Alexandra James (vocals): “Vintage 1950s and 60s American rock’n’roll meets a Satanic black mass with doo-wop and black magick. I love connecting with the audience so we do a mini Satanic baptism at the end of our performance and anoint whoever desires with the blood of Satan. This modern era is so devoid of ritual and magick that people are starving for it. There’s few instances in the world where you can transcend reality; we want to give people a sense of communion and help them get out of their everyday experiences. Inclusiveness is huge for us; we’re outsiders and freaks and we want all the other outsiders and freaks to feel they belong somewhere.”
How spooky is the Twin Temple tour van?
“We have a pumpkin and a Tupperware box of graveyard dirt on our dashboard, and someone gave us a Baphomet plushie so there’s signs of dark sides to us littered all over our van. We have it all blacked out because the sun burns us – don’t forget, I’m reaching my 6,666th year on Earth! We’re big believers in clearing space so we take herbs to burn in our hotel rooms too, but mostly we’re hanging upside down from the closet.”
What does it mean to be Satanists today?
“The biggest misconception is that Satanists are evil or obsessed with drinking virgin’s blood under the full moon or harming people in some way. Realistically, Satanism is about liberating, elevating and expressing yourself fully – no blood sacrifice necessary. You didn’t see people called Satanists and devil worshippers until colonialism; it was handy to call the indigenous peoples Satanists to take away their power and oppress them, so the ultimate goal of Satanism is to selfempower, not disempower others.”
What’s been your proudest touring moment so far?
“We’re massive Ghost fans and we just got to play with them in Salt Lake City – the Mormon capital needed some Satan! Tobias is one of the kindest, most intelligent and driven people we’ve met and we share a lot of inspiration with theatre, dark aesthetic, craft and showmanship.”
Zachary James (guitars): “Other than the Ghost show, we also just sold out the Roxy in Los Angeles, which was our first proper headline show in LA, and it was a great show!”
