BARREN WOMB

Lizard Lounge LOYAL BLOOD

-

Two-headed, sludgy wrongness from the Nordic badlands

Lizard Lounge finishes with a song about someone lactating meth. If that’s your bag, dive in. Barren Womb’s fourth – and best – album is a grubby ashtray of Clutch-like quips, Refused’s hardcore splats, Primus-esque wobbliness and, above all, big, stinky riffs. This is what people pretended Royal Blood did. Sure, they slither over genre boundaries, but BW are an effortlessly cool rock’n’roll two-piece. Smokes, Let’s Go’s hand-clapping and Molten Pig’s ridiculous ‘Blegh!’ keep things slick; track three,

Hairy Palms, weaves the superb line, ‘The world is going to shit, so who wants to look at your dick?,’ within a four-minute masterclass of Blood Command disco and Scissorfight sludginess.

Lizard Lounge’s only fault is it peaks too early. ■■■■■■■■■■
