Swedish death metallers shore up the foundations of the old school

Having reformed back in 2014 after eight years of inactivity, Swedish death metallers Centinex haven’t wasted much time in recapturing the beautiful brutality of their formative years. Death In Pieces (you have to love the old-school dunderheadedness of the album title) is their third album since burying the hatchet (another shit pun, you’re welcome) and like many bands around at the moment it delivers the Scandi-death goods so effectively that its generic nature becomes an asset in itself. Innovation is to be commended, of course, but so is chucking out bloody chunks of crackling riffage topped by disgusted grunts and held together by primitive punkish rhythms. You’ve heard it all before, but it still sounds damn fine, so shut up and get in the moshpit – as soon as quarantine is over, that is. ■■■■■■■■■■
