South Korean post-hardcore crew get dulled by their polish
Bursters might describe themselves as “postalternative hardcore”, but their effervescent debut,
Live In Hope, wafted way too far into Thirty Seconds To Mars territory to feature on Hammer’s radar. Sadly, Once And For All, the South Koreans’ second album, is also stuffed with overpolished wet lettuces like Dreamer and Remind You,
which have more in common with the safe and toothless proclamations of Imagine Dragons. There are a few moments of potential; opener Smell The Rot
showcases some impressive screams from frontman Daegun Roh, Therapy injects some weight into the band’s fizzy sound and even though Colors is let down by clunky, but well-meaning lyrics, it’s a moment of genuine euphoria, a chestbeating, ‘lighters in the air’ sort of anthem that’s as pure as they come. But right now, Bursters still sound like a band who are finding their feet. ■■■■■■■■■■
