SOJOURNER
Premonitions NAPALM
Folk-tinged black metal from the far corners of the world
Creating an album can be a logistical nightmare at the best of times, but when you take into consideration that members of Sojourner live as far apart as Europe, North America and New Zealand, then Premonitions
is even more impressive. Sojourner’s music takes atmospheric black metal as its base and adds wellplaced folk elements and Chloe Bray’s exquisite, clean vocals to create a narrative of epic proportions. Songs are grandiose with soaring guitars and classic piano weaving themselves into the tapestry of the lyrics, which speak of lost love and wondrous journeys. Harsher vocals play their part in Premonitions, and co-vocalist Emilio Crespo adds much-needed grit, a darkness that plays off the lighter moments and gives contrast to The Apocalyptic Theater and
Fatal Frame, both of which ascend to the heavens on climbing melodies and tangible emotion. ■■■■■■■■■■
