MUTTER IS OVERRATED
Plus other ridiculous opinions, curious queries and fiery takes you fired at us this month
RAMM IT DOWN
Mutter turning 20 makes me feel old but it was awesome reliving that era in the last issue. Can we get similar stories for Iowa and Lateralus please? Those three albums together basically soundtracked my teenage years!
Liam Phillips (email)
Yeah, us too. Still, no harm in the occasional bout of celebratory nostalgia, right? On that note, Iowa and Lateralus… OK, you’ve definitely got us thinking big.
WHAT’S THE MUTTER? Controversial take: Mutter is vastly overrated and isn’t even in Rammstein’s top three albums. I know it’s got all the singles but for me, they’ve just got better and better since then and the last album was (genuinely) the best thing they’ve done.
Tim Wilson (email)
That is certainly a controversial take. And almost definitely wrong. Sorry. Although
Deputy Ed Eleanor will back you about that last album – and to be fair, it is world class.
COREY TIME
It is 2021 and I am still seeing stories on Metal Hammer’s website about Corey Taylor’s latest opinion. Why? Why are you doing this to us? Please stop.
David James (Facebook)
It is 2021 and people are still moaning about Corey Taylor! Come on, guys, if you haven’t worked out he’s not going anywhere by now, we really can’t help you.
KILL ’EM ALL
Loved the Killers feature in the last issue, however I disagree about Maiden fans at the time being fed up by the songs having been out a little while. As a fan who was there, I can confirm many of us were happy to have them committed to a proper record!
Billy Warran (email)
In our defence, we never said all fans were dismayed at the lack of ‘new’ material on Killers. Anyway, the point is, it turned out pretty alright for Iron Maiden in the end. And Killers is class.
LEE WAY
The Evanescence feature last month gave me life. Amy’s been through so much and I’m so happy she’s come through it all OK, and with an amazing album with Evanescence. Respect our queen, please!
Gemma Butler (email)
Amy’s one of the best, and Evanescence put out a strong record this year. By the time we finally get to see those Evanescence/within Temptation shows, we should be in for a proper treat!
RIP LG
Thanks for having LG in the issue last month. I was absolutely gutted by his passing – Entombed were the band that got me into death metal and he seemed like
the nicest dude. I think Wolverine Blues will be getting some more plays over the next few weeks…
Jason Simpson (email)
LG’S loss is one that reverberated all the way through the metal community, and Entombed’s impact on metal itself is immeasurable. We’ll miss him.
WAAAAAAH-MMYS
Respect to Ice-t but is Body Count really the best choice for a Best
Metal Grammy in 2021? In a world where you have Code Orange, it’s just wrong. I’d even take Poppy winning if it meant we got something young, fresh and different on the stage.
Luke Edwards (email)
We love us some Body Count, but we can’t fault your argument that Code Orange or Poppy would have been a little more, um contemporary. Although did anyone see that Post Malone performance? We’re just saying: Rob Halford might be wondering where one of his jackets is.
BOXING CLEVER
Please keep up the Spiritbox love! I love these guys and it’s so nice to see Courtney up front and centre in metal media telling it like it is. We need more like her!
Tessa Vaughn (email)
We agree! Spiritbox rule, and so does Courtney. In fact, we catch up with Spiritbox over on p.20 to see how their new album is coming along…
THE SHOW MIGHT GO ON?
Is it bad that I’m starting to finally get my hopes up that we might get some festivals before summer is all said and done? I’ve booked my ticket for Bloodstock anyway – just saying.
Nikki Barker (email)
We have every single digit crossed for this one. Just how good will that first beer in that field be if we can get to Bloodstock in August?
