SAVAGE MESSIAH
After joining Candlelight Records (one-time home of Emperor and Opeth), the Londoners made their own splash by blending thrash with NWOBHM pomp. Early highlights such as Silent Empire and Carnival Of Souls weren’t just fast; their flashy leads and choruses explored vintage Maiden.

SHRAPNEL
When you’ve signed with Candlelight Records and twice been produced by Russ Russell (Napalm Death, At The Gates, Dimmu Borgir), you know you’re a big deal. Shrapnel are quick enough to rival Suicidal Tendencies and early Sepultura, and their refrains have only strengthened over time, too.

REIGN OF FURY
Debut EP Psycho Intentions may have had major Anthrax vibes, but this Cheltenham crew quickly found their niche in progressive thrash. Second (and best) album Death Be Thy Shepherd featured 10-minute-plus songs jam-packed with barrelling riffs and creative solos that kept the pedal to the metal.

THE BLEEDING
Formed in 2010, this quartet were latecomers to Britain’s thrash revival – by the release of their 2017 debut album, the scene had wound down. However, its death metal screeches and tremolo picking made Rites Of Absolution a flooring last gasp from a faded movement.
