AGELESS OBLIVION
Suspended Between Earth And Sky APOCALYPTIC WITCHCRAFT
Hampshire’s progressive death dealers come back from the grave
Little has been heard from Ageless Oblivion since 2014’s Penthos – an album that seemed to promise a bright future for the Hampshire death squad. On the strength of their belated third album, it seems they’ve lost neither their brutality nor their progressive edge. This is a fierce offering whose relentlessness is balanced by a compositional intelligence and coherence many of the band’s contemporaries could learn from. Tracks like From Ash And Sulphur, All Was Froze and Cohesion negotiate multiple gear shifts with deceptive elegance, while the closing epic, Eldmessa,
reminiscent of Neurosis, earns every second of its 11-minute duration. ■■■■■■■■■■
