INFERNO
Paradeigma (Phosphenes Of Aphotic Eternity) DEBEMUR MORTI PRODUCTIONS
Atmospheric Czech black metallers hit an ecstatic motherlode
If Inferno’s quest for spiritual reckoning has the air of an Akhlys-like solo project, it’s surprising to discover that 18 members have passed through their ranks over the last 25 years. Maybe they all fell Icaruslike before they reached their destined psychic summit, or failed to meet sole permanent member Adramelech’s exacting standards. Either way, the current five-piece sound like a rebirth, casting off more vestiges of rock’n’roll, and mortal concerns, as they spiral and occasionally linger through atmospheric realms towards a transformative critical mass. Paradeigma is abyssal, but exalted too. For all its arcane, cosmological mysticism there’s an anticipatory, multi-layered euphoria brewed up by the likes of The Wailing Horizon
and Ekstasis Of The Continuum, the latter’s tantric, post-punk shudders an offering amidst an echo chamber of otherworldly wails. Inferno are on the cusp of something special. ■■■■■■■■■■
