SUFFOCATE FOR FUCK SAKE
Fyra MOMENT OF COLLAPSE
Scandic post-metallers find light at the end of a long, dark tunnel
Fyra is a daunting proposition: a 12-track, 82-minute exploration of addiction, told through the perspective of four protagonists. But this Swedish post-metal septet are totally worthy of sustaining such a gruelling topic. In broad terms, SFFS mix the grinding tension of post-metal with explosive bursts of screamo – imagine a hybrid of Cult Of Luna and Birds In Row – but there are also smatterings of ambient electronica, which offer light in the shade. The Swedish voice samples peppered throughout add a sense of mystery to proceedings and whilst much of Fyra
takes on a nihilistic hue, the melancholy moods are tempered with each of the album’s four ‘chapters’ coming to a hopeful conclusion. Fyra is a dark, often bleak journey, but it’s one you’ll be glad you went on.
