RAISE YOUR FIST EVANGELISTS

Powerwolf enlisted a bunch of their famous friends to sing their songs for bonus album Missa Cantorem. We spoke to some of them

Doro WHERE THE WILD WOLVES HAVE GONE

“The first time I heard of Powerwolf was at one of our shows. We played at a big, sold-out venue in Germany, and Powerwolf were our support act. I was getting ready in my dressing room and I couldn‘t believe the great, big sound coming through the walls. So, I walked outside and stood by the soundboard and really fell in love with the band. When they asked me if I wanted to sing this beautiful song, I immediately said yes. It’s really cool and powerful, very mysterious and I could totally identify with the vibe and the lyrics – it felt so good giving it my all. I think it‘s a fantastic anthem! I really love it!”

Jari Mäenpää (Wintersun) SATURDAY SATAN

“I had not actually listened to Powerwolf pretty much at all before, but then I listened to Saturday Satan.

I liked it a lot and thought, ‘Yeah, I can do this and the idea is cool, so let’s do it!’ It was also a nice opportunity to showcase my ‘rock’n’roll-ish’ raspy clean vocals, which I always love to do. The song is obviously about evil and I got a kick out of stepping into the shoes of this evil character!”

Ralf Scheepers (Primal Fear) SANCTIFIED WITH DYNAMITE

“Myself and Primal Fear have met the band several times, at festivals all over the world. I’ve always liked their style. When I heard that they wanted me to sing the song Sanctified With Dynamite, I was even more pleased, because this song is absolutely killer! I’m happy and proud of the result!”

Matt Heafy (Trivium) FIST BY FIST (SACRALIZE OR STRIKE)

“It is a tremendous honour to be able to do my rendition of the fantastic Fist By Fist by the mighty Powerwolf. Powerwolf has been one of my favourite bands for ages, so this is a privilege of the highest calibre.”

Björn ‘Speed’ Strid (Soilwork) KILLERS WITH THE CROSS

“Powerwolf have a special sound; there is something cinematic about it and they almost created a cult around them! There’s a cartoonish feel, but I think that’s exactly what you want to have, this band with a whole concept and story around them, particularly with the power metal elements. At the same time, there’s an 80s classic rock vibe to it that really stands out, particularly with the vampiric imagery. I definitely took a little inspiration from the vibe Attila Dorn brings, but also came in to do my own thing and you can really hear the powerful melodic death metal approach in my voice.”
