LET THE KARDASHIANS REP CANNIBAL CORPSE
And other controversial opinions you shared with us this month
STILL OUR #1
I was alarmed at the lack of significant Joey Jordison coverage in your issue out in August - two pages just didn’t seem enough at all. I was very relieved to see that Joey was given the full treatment in the following month’s magazine. Thank you, Metal Hammer!
George Williams (email)
There was never any doubt that we’d try to do Joey’s legacy justice - we just needed to make sure we had the time and space to do it properly!
EBEN FOREVER
Burgerkill were the first Indonesian metal band I ever heard and it was thanks to Metal Hammer. I’m so heartbroken that Eben has been taken from us so young. Where’s the justice in that?
Daniel Brooks (email)
We’re totally shocked by the news of Eben’s passing and, truth be told, are still trying to wrap our heads around it all. It’s been a hard year for losing metal heroes.
REST IN POWER
Between Joey, Alexi Laiho and now Eben from Burgerkill, we really do need to understand that life is fleeting. At least all three of those great men taught us to live life to the fullest! Metal forever!
Jose Santin (Facebook)
We couldn’t agree more. Losing musicians we look up to is hard, and indeed a sobering reminder of how we can’t count on our tomorrows. Look after yourselves, everyone.
HUNS N’ POSERS
Who cares if Kourtney Kardashian wears a Cannibal Corpse t-shirt? What difference does it make to anyone? Maybe if more bands actually made merchandise that fit women their designs wouldn’t end up in high street fashion shops.
Olivia Wilsen (Facebook)
In terms of the issues the metal scene is facing in 2021, someone wearing a t-shirt of a legendary band is pretty far down our worries list.
SONS OF ANARCHY
Lars Ulrich’s kids being old enough to form a band makes me feel absolutely ancient. I remember The Black Album fan arguments like they were yesterday!
Brian Seeman (Facebook)
That’s probably because they were yesterday, to be fair people still debate that album as much as ever. Lars’s grandkids will start playing instruments before we get over this one…
TWENTY TWENTY-FUN Iron Maiden, Gojira, Rivers Of Nihil, Carcass, At The Gates, Cannibal Corpse… this is one of the best years for metal I can remember in a long time! Dare
I say, it was worth the wait given how little was going on last year?
Richie Hubbart (Facebook)
We think last year had plenty to say for itself, but yes, 2021 is on another level entirely. You didn’t even mention Employed To Serve, Spiritbox, Backxwash, Beartooth, Jinjer, Alien Weaponry… oh dear we’ve gone cross-eyed.
SPOOK WHO’S TALKING
Are we allowed to get excited about Halloween yet? I know it’s September but I’ve been spinning the new Ice Nine Kills stuff and it’s got me in the mood.
James Rembert (Facebook)
Well, James, not only are we excited for Halloween all year round, but by the time people read this in the mag it’ll be October, so we’d be sick with disgust if you weren’t getting the orange tablecloth out by now.
DON’T SLEEP ON THIS
I’m not seeing nearly enough hype from Metal Hammer about Sleep Token! One of the best young bands in the world right now, where’s the love, Metal Hammer?
Alice Spooner (Facebook)
Well, they don’t do interviews (yet?), so features are tricky, but musically? Live? We’re alllllllll over it. And there’ll be plenty more Sleep Token love to come, trust us.
STIFF BIZKIT
Why the fuck do Metal Hammer have a hard-on for Limp Bizkit again? I feel like I see photos of Fred Durst all over your social media every single week now. Is it 2001?
Clay David Smith (Facebook)
Limp Bizkit are fucking great and bashing them went out of fashion about 10 years ago. Come on, keep up, Clay!
