Sting and buy! Bee swarm in Asda car park

-

A SWARM of bees caused a buzz at a supermarket by settling on a parked car.

Shoppers fled in panic as hundreds of bees nestled on the back of a Honda SUV outside Asda, in Hayle, Cornwall.

Shopper Kerrie Williams, who took a picture of the swarm, said the sight left her ‘flabbergasted’.

Luckily, a beekeeper was shopping in the store. He went home to pick up his protective gear, then scooped the bees up and took them to a nearby hive.

Bee expert Rick Cornwall said: ‘They are harmless and docile if left alone. If it’s your property they are resting on call a beekeeper or the council.’

He said the bees were ‘in the process of moving house’, adding: ‘Swarming is natural. It is also one of nature’s wonders, like birds flocking. Bees will only sting if angered and in defence of the hive, so allow them to do their thing, keep calm and keep kids away.’
