Hopes springs eternal after 400 job rejections

-

JOBSEEKER Jake Hopes is proving as tenacious as his name after applying for 400 posts.

The aspiring actor, 23, has been turned down by the likes of Asda and Pizza Hut, blaming fierce competition for suitable roles.

Mr Hopes, who has worked at a cinema, shop and pub kitchen, said he has lots of experience in customer service and retail.

He fires off about four applications a week, and said it is soul destroying when he does not receive a response. He has landed temporary work but nothing full-time.

‘I didn’t even get a job at Pizza Hut, somewhere you think hires most people,’ said Mr Hopes, from Bristol. ‘There’s just so many people applying for one role, it’s really tough. I need to earn money so I can fund a degree in acting.

‘I’ve been to quite a few interviews but most of the time I just don’t hear anything back. It’s really frustrating. I spend a lot of time at home bored. I make sure I go out for walks but most of the time I don’t leave the house.

‘I want to work. I really want to become a successful actor but I can’t do that without money.’
