Fury reveals Wilder rematch won’t take place until at least next spring
TYSON FURY believes his much-anticipated rematch with Deontay Wilder is likely to take place next spring.
The heavyweights fought to a draw when contesting Wilder’s WBC title in Los Angeles in December, and then surprised and disappointed fans when an immediate rematch was not agreed.
Instead, on Saturday, Wilder made his latest title defence by stopping Dominic Breazeale and Fury is preparing to fight Tom Schwarz in Las Vegas next month, having signed a longterm TV deal with ESPN.
‘Deontay Wilder cannot run from Tyson Fury forever,’ said Fury (left). ‘This rematch has got to happen but it won’t be in May, June, July or August. ‘This fight is likely to happen in March or April next year.’
Fury added: ‘We were very close to a rematch. We had contracts, they had contracts. All of a sudden ESPN made me an offer I couldn’t refuse.’
