Riddle of Facebook page set up in ‘murder’ victim’s name
A FARM worker who is feared to have been murdered four years ago could still be alive – after selfies appeared on a Facebook account in his name.
Ricardas Puisys, then 35, sparked a search that saw one man arrested – and later released – after he went missing from a leek farm in September 2015.
Now a Facebook page in his name and featuring photos believed to be of Lithuania-born Mr Puisys has appeared – leading detectives to believe he could be alive and well. The account has 69 friends, which consist of Mr Puisys’s real friends and family.
Relatives and police have tried to make contact with the person behind the account but are yet to establish whether it is Mr Puisys, of Wisbech, Cambridgeshire, or when and where the photos were taken.
The Facebook page is being managed from within Wisbech, but police have not been able to pinpoint exactly where. Det Ch Insp Adam Gallop said Mr Puisys’s disappearance has been ‘a complete mystery’ for the past four years. ‘Early on in the investigation we had information that Ricardas had come to some harm. As a consequence one person was arrested on suspicion of murder. However, there was insufficient evidence to charge,’ he said.
‘To this day we have not found his body, nor have we found any evidence telling us he is alive, that was until last summer. A Facebook account has been set up in his name and photographs of who we believe to be Ricardas have been posted.
‘We have been trying to make contact with the person behind this account, but are yet to establish whether Ricardas is alive.’
Anyone with information is being urged to contact police.
Mr Gallop said: ‘Whether Ricardas is alive or not, someone knows what has happened to him. Please do the right thing and come forward.’
