Tay’s the Cat’s whiskers being in movie musical

- By KERRI-ANN ROPER

LOOK what you made meow do... Taylor Swift looks paw-some in her Cats get-up, as she admits she loves the ‘weirdness’ of being on the big screen.

And the pop star, who plays Bombalurina in the new movie based on Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical, said the ‘opportunity’ to star with Sir Ian McKellen, Dame Judi Dench and Idris Elba was right up her alley.

Asked about her move into acting, she told Cats creator Lord Lloyd-Webber in an interview for Vogue: ‘When I was younger, I used to get questions like, “Where do you see yourself in ten years?”

‘As I get older, I’m learning wisdom is learning how dumb you are compared to how much you are going to know.

‘I really had an amazing time with Cats. I loved the weirdness of it. I loved how I felt

I’d never get another opportunity to be like this in my life.’

The chart-topper, 29, also revealed Dame Judi, 84, showered her with kindness on set.

‘She’s lovely. In one scene, someone walked up to me with this gummy candy and I was like, “Oh, I’ve never had this before. This must be British candy. This is amazing”,’ she said.

‘I was raving about it so much and Judi must have overheard me. The next day I got to my dressing room and there was a signed photo from Judi and, like, six bags of it.’

Lord Lloyd-Webber told the singer Dame Judi was due to star in the original musical but ‘snapped her Achilles tendon and had to withdraw’. She plays Old Deuteronomy in the film, a role cast as a male character in the 1981 musical, and Lord LloydWebber said: ‘I had this idea, which I ran past (director) Tom (Hooper), that we could make Old Deuteronomy a woman.

‘Seeing her perform this time was an emotional thing for me because it was a very, very sad day when she had to leave the original show.’

He and Swift also collaborated on song Beautiful Ghosts, which is sung by the character of Victoria

– played by ballerina Francesca Hayward – in the movie.

The film, also starring James Corden, is out on December 20.
