Tragic death of ‘amazing’ care worker and mother
A CARE worker who died after coming down with coronavirus symptoms was an ‘amazing’ person, her family said.
Mother-of-two Carol Jamabo, 56, fell ill around a week before her death last Wednesday.
The devout Christian had moved to the UK from Nigeria in the early 1990s and worked in the community for Cherish Elderly Care in Bury, Greater Manchester. She had previously worked in the prison service and as an administrator at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital NHS Foundation Trust in London.
She recently moved to Bury, Greater Manchester, to be closer to her sons, Tonye Selema, 25, and Abiye Selema, 22, a student at Leeds University.
Asthma sufferer Ms Jamabo was taken to hospital after falling ill at home. But her condition rapidly deteriorated and she was transferred to Salford Royal Hospital where she died.
Her nephew, Dakuro Fiberesima, from Purfleet, Essex. said: ‘It happened so rapidly. No one was by her side. You just get a call (saying) they are planning to turn the ventilator off.’
He added: ‘She was such a popular person. She was just an amazing aunt. She was fun-loving with many friends and will be remembered for her uplifting, joyful and enthusing personality.
‘Words cannot describe the impact her passing will have on her work colleagues, friends, family and, most painfully, her two children.’
Ms Jamabo’s death comes as colleagues paid tribute to ‘very wellrespected midwife’ Lynsay Coventry, 54, who died on Thursday after testing positive and self-isolating at home.
On Friday, Liz Glanister, 68, a ‘longserving staff nurse’ at Aintree University Hospital in Liverpool, died at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital.
Nursing assistant John Alagos, 24, also died on Friday. He collapsed after his shift at Watford General Hospital.
