Dr Rosena Allin-Khan, who also ran for deputy and continues to work as a hospital doctor, is shadow minister for mental health. John Healey becomes shadow defence secretary, having served in education for Mr Corbyn.

But Richard Burgon and Baroness Chakrabarti, who were prominent allies of Mr Corbyn, no longer have a frontbench role.

Anneliese Dodds was interrupted by little Isabella as she discussed the coronavirus crisis by video link from the family home in Oxford.

It could have been a tense moment for the mum-of-two, appointed by newly elected party leader Sir Keir Starmer. But she smiled and kept talking on Sky News. At the end of the Q& A, presenter Kay Burley mentioned Isabella’s cameo and Ms Dodds said: ‘I thought she was going to stay asleep, sorry... so embarrassing. She’s thankfully under the chair now.’

The Oxford East MP, who took her daughter along to the European parliament while an MEP in 2016, said she wanted to work with chancellor Rishi Sunak to improve emergency economic measures in place.
