CORONA KINDNESS

-

■ I’m 74 and received a free emergency food pack from Morrisons, which was a huge welcome as I struggle with mobility. I also managed this week to place an order with Ocado, which was delivered with no goods missing. I was very grateful. I usually do my shopping using a shopping trolley but injured my arm recently, so thanks to the above companies I have no worries any more. Julia Vannucci Belper, via email

■ A big thank you to Edinburgh Leith Cycle Co for making the green machine roadworthy so I can get to work. You’ve done a fantastic job and it’s really kind of you to offer NHS staff free labour. Grateful Senior Nurse, Leith

■ On three separate occasions when queuing outside a large supermarket, a lady and two different gentlemen have beckoned me to either stand in front of them or to make straight for the entrance. People have good hearts. Bernard, London

■ A big shout-out to all school caretakers who have been opening schools for key workers’ children and doing maintenance. They are not being recognised. Gerald, London

■ A big thank you to Nick, Diane and Berni, our cleaners, who are cleaning our Grimethorpe Asda store, protecting our colleagues and customers. Tony Blake, Barnsley

■ I’d like to give a shout-out to all the security companies and security officers on shifts securing the local and government buildings in the UK during this pandemic. A massive thanks to you all. Nicolas Iyasele, Glasgow

■ A big shout-out to all the cheery, happy railway staff in Aberdeen, without whom we couldn’t make our way to work. Thank you.

Polly Pocket, Stonehaven

■ Heartfelt thanks to the staff in M&S Byres Road. They never complain and are cheerfully working away in the store to continue to provide a much-appreciated service for us all.

Gail, Glasgow

■ Thanks to all prisoner officers doing a dangerous job – the forgotten fourth emergency service!

■ A big shout-out to all the postmen and women delivering mail every day (and junk mail to every house) with no recognition other than ‘key worker’. They truly are heroes.

Hen Bradshaw, Chesterfield

■ Huge thanks to fitness instructor Barbara Saulter, who posts videos to our WhatsApp group to keep us moving. Many of us are older and exercise boosts our immune systems.

Margaret Thompson, Penzance

■ Big thank you to my son-in-law Kris Robertson, who is a charge nurse in Forth Valley Hospital. Jen, my daughter, and my ten-year-old grandson, Elliot, both have Type 1 diabetes so are being very careful at home and Kris is doing everything he can to keep them safe.

Caroline Millan, Livingston

■ Being a member of an emergency service, I applaud all NHS staff and other nursing agencies who put their lives on the line to help others – their selfless acts know no bounds. Also, the public and industry have been fantastic, all trying to resolve this awful situation.
