Duffy: I now feel free from my drugged rape ordeal

- By DANIEL BINNS

DUFFY has opened up about her rape ordeal at the hands of a man she says drugged her, held her captive four weeks and hinted he would kill her.

The Welsh singer – real name Aimee Duffy – shared her ‘dark’ story on a web page linked to her Instagram account, saying she finally felt ‘free’.

The Mercy singer, 35, wrote she was drugged at a restaurant on her birthday before being held prisoner in her own home and taken abroad.

She wrote: ‘I can’t remember getting on the plane and came round in the back of a travelling vehicle. I was put into a hotel room and the perpetrator returned and raped me. I remember the pain and trying to stay conscious in the room after it happened.

‘I was stuck with him for another day. He didn’t look at me, I was to walk behind him. I was somewhat conscious and withdrawn. I could have been disposed of by him.’

Duffy said she eventually managed to flee but does not know how she had ‘the strength to endure those days’ especially as her attacker made ‘veiled confessions of wanting to kill me’. She said she told ‘two female officers during different threatening incidents in the past decade, it is on record’, and now felt the ‘identity of the rapist should be handled by the police’.

The singer, whose last album Endlessly came out in 2010, said she felt suicidal after her ordeal and has spent ‘almost ten years completely alone’, but now feels ‘free’ after counselling.

She said: ‘As dark as my story is, I do speak from my heart, for my life, and for the life of others, whom have suffered the same.’
