We can all go on a summer hol to Greece

- By INTI LANDAURO

GREECE is to welcome tourists back this summer – with hotels opening on June 15 and direct international flights allowed from July 1.

In a televised address, prime minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said visitors would be subject to sample testing.

‘General health protocols will also be adhered to, without them, however, overshadowing our bright sun or the natural beauties of Greece,’ he added.

The country’s health authorities yesterday announced one new death and ten new cases of the virus, bringing the total number of fatalities to 166 and infections to 2,850.

Mr Mitsotakis said Greece had been ‘an example to follow in the handling of the health crisis’. He spoke to the nation as Spain announced that everyone over the age of six must wear a mask (pictured) if they leave their home as the country slowly emerges from lockdown. Under the order, face coverings will be needed for all indoor public spaces and outdoors where it is impossible to keep a distance of two metres apart. Spain has suffered 27,778 deaths and had 232,037 cases of Covid-19. But the pace of new fatalities has slowed to under 100 a day, and prime minister Pedro Sanchez is aiming to lift most of the lockdown by the end of June – unless there is a second wave.
