Telegraph machine from Titanic set to be recovered
THE Titanic’s telegraph machine, which broadcast distress signals as the liner sank, is set to be salvaged. The company RMS Titanic can use a submersible to rescue the artefact, a US judge ruled – modifying a previous order that banned cutting into the wreck. The firm plans to exhibit it to ‘tell the story of Titanic’s desperate fate’. But the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration argued it is surrounded by ‘mortal remains’ which should be left alone.
