■ I totally agree with Bill Brightman, who says we can probably hire ourselves out as scarecrows if hairdressers don’t open up soon (MetroTalk, Tue). I am beginning to look like my brother (an original hippy) and he says one hippy in the family is enough.

David Sandler, North London

■ Having watched reruns of the Italia 90 World Cup, Dec from Essex says what a disaster Peter Shilton was in goal (MetroTalk, Wed). He must have missed the Cameroon quarter-final rerun, where Shilton’s numerous saves kept us in the game before Gary Lineker rescued us at the end.

Russ, Stockport

■ With regards to Patrick the nurse asking why the government is paying to furlough staff in the restaurant industry (MetroTalk, Tue), I too am a nurse who has worked through this crisis. However, I would like to know how Patrick thinks these staff from ‘Starbucks and the like’ are supposed to pay for their food and rent if they are not being paid? Sally Anne, London
