‘Beast of Kavos’ rapist falls 100ft from cliff in cop chase

- By DANIEL BINNS

A SERIAL rapist who preyed on British holidaymakers has broken his back after falling 100ft off a cliff while fleeing police in Greece.

Dimitris Aspiotis, dubbed ‘The Beast of Kavos’, fractured his spine, leg and hip and ruptured a kidney when he plunged into a ravine on Corfu during a manhunt sparked by new rape allegations.

Aspiotis, 47, was controversially granted early release from prison last August under a law change after serving seven years of a 52-year sentence.

But a hunt was launched after an Albanian woman claimed she was dragged into a forest and repeatedly raped at knifepoint earlier this month.

The woman was found in a hut two days after being reported missing by her partner, who told police they had met Aspiotis the night before she vanished.

He was cornered on a clifftop in Lefkimmi last Friday. It took three hours to remove him on a stretcher after his fall.

The serial sex offender is believed to have preyed on more than 100 women visiting Corfu before being arrested in 2012. Eight Britons were among his confirmed victims.

One of them, Kayleigh Morgan, 32, from Scunthorpe, waived her right to anonymity last year to voice her disgust at his early release, and warned the Greek authorities that he would strike again. ‘A person like that can never change,’ she said.

But Aspiotis was allowed to return to Kavos. He is being held in hospital under police guard in Corfu Town and faces an immediate return to prison.
