So cheerful, despite all the many horrors she must have seen

-

■ I nominate Verena Lewis as a corona hero because she has continued to work in the NHS mortuary through some very harrowing days. We are a family who are shielding and live above her. She has done little bits for us and keeps us all going with her laughter and smiles, even though what she must have seen and done must have been horrific. She is a really good person.

Rachel Suddaby, London

■ I am a pharmacist on the front line and I leave my wife, Shreepa, alone at home daily, whereas others we know are lucky to be in lockdown together with their spouses/family. She teaches online workout classes to a number of clients, ex-clients, friends, family and friends of friends. Plus, three times a week she does a chair workout for older members of the family. All for free. She is doing a wonderful job for all that join for both their physical and mental wellbeing.

Proud, London

■ I have two sons-in-law, Alex and Phil. Alex works for an electricity company and Phil for a water company. Both have been going to work every day during the lockdown to keep electricity and water flowing. Both heroes.

Henry, Southampton

■ I would love to give a shout-out to my aunt who, despite being in Hong Kong, has managed to be a constant rock to myself and the family, helping whenever she can – anything from small surprise gifts to helping with business advice and anything in between. She has even donated lots of face masks to companies to help them in these troubled times. I’m very lucky to call her my aunt.

■ I nominate Barry Newman for driving our trains and getting people to work during this crisis and for putting himself on the front line to help others. You are amazing! I’m so proud of you – and, to steal your company’s hashtag, #keyworkershelpingkeyworkers.

Savannah, Watford

■ I’d like to nominate all the staff at Bradbury Court, Ponteland, Northumberland. They have all given 110 per cent in making Northumbria Supported Living a clean and safe place to live for the tenants, keeping them occupied day to day. It’s a very difficult job to do during these strange times we’re going through. Everyone is going above and beyond their duties and all deserve the recognition.

David Grice, Newcastle upon Tyne

■ Thank you, Lucy and Joao, for always being there for us.

Stan, Feltham

■ I would like to thank the chairman of Edo Community Arts And Culture Scotland, for the kind gesture to all its members. And also the Scotland pastor of Everlasting Arms Church for the delivery of essentials to church members at trying times. Thanks for remembering us all.

Nicolas Iyasele, Glasgow

■ I would like to give a massive shoutout to all the staff – reception, cleaning staff, caretaker teachers, teaching assistants, personal care assistants, midday supervisor and everyone else at Yeoman Park Academy at Mansfield Woodhouse. You are truly amazing people. Well done, keep going.

Michelle, via email

■ I’d like to nominate the staff of the intensive care unit at Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton, where I was admitted in May with Covid-19. The care was outstanding and they stabilised my breathing quickly. Most importantly, they were so aware of my anxieties and care needs, and showed such sensitivity. I can’t thank them enough.
