SAM: LEW’S SO GREAT AT SLATING THE HATE

FISCHER FULL OF PRAISE FOR TROLL BUSTER PAL

-

SAM FISCHER says Lewis C Capaldi has helped him cope with online trolling after experiencing some of the d downsides of success.

The 28-year-old A Australian singer supported Lewis, 23, on tour last year, and Sam has been in awe of the Scottish singer’s approach to success – and tackling abuse.

‘Lewis is one of the most genuine people in the game,’ he told Guilty Pleasures.

‘The best thing I’ve taken from him is not to take everything so seriously, and how he handles negative comments by trying to find the funny side.’

Sam – whose single This City is romping up the charts – says he has had a few ‘nasty comments’ from trolls. ‘When it first started, I took it quite personally,’ he said. ‘My wife was like, “The fact people want to send hateful comments means you are doing something that is creating a reaction. It’s a sign of success”.’ Sam and wife Erin Cafferky – who is also his backing singer – wed last year, and Sam had a cute way to propose. ‘We were out getting drinks and I said, “I have this song for you”. She didn’t want to listen to it because we were out.

‘I was like, “Seriously, you’ve got to listen!” So she put headphones on and it got to the chorus, which asked her if she would marry me. She turned around and I was on one knee.’ The pair had been downing drinks at their favourite wine bar, and Sam says it is a bit of a blur: ‘I was nervous and drunk and said a whole bunch of words – and then we were engaged,’ he said.
