GOING GOING GONE!

MUM-OF-FIVE’S DREAM HOME DISAPPEARS AS LANDSLIDES HIT COASTAL COMMUNITY

- by MICHAEL DRUMMOND

A DREAM home that was left teetering on the edge of a cliff after half of it disappeared in a landslide is now all gone.

Owner Emma Tullett, 42, held her head in her hands yesterday as she visited the scene of devastation at Eastchurch on the Isle of Sheppey in Kent.

‘We are just so grateful we all escaped unharmed,’ she said.

The mum-of-five bought the two-bedroom bungalow, with annexe and swimming pool, in August 2018 for £195,000.

She could not insure the property – named Cliffhanger – because of its position overlooking the sea but claims she was told it would last 40 years.

Today, only the empty swimming pool remains. And Ms Tullett says she has ‘lost everything’ – including her car.

and four of her children, saw cracks appearing in bricks in her front garden on Friday afternoon. That evening, as she sat in her living room watching TV with a glass of wine, she heard ‘crackling and crunching’ and blinds fell off the wall. She grabbed her children and they fled with just the clothes on their backs.

On Sunday, half the house fell off the cliff, leaving behind the living room, a bedroom, the kitchen and the hallway.

Then, in the early hours of yesterday, the remaining rooms tumbled down.

Ms Tullett and around 20 neighbours are now in temporary accommodation.
