WE WERE ELLIE BENT ON BEATING THE HATERS

UKE PRITCHARD and his wife Ellie Rose have found a Kooky way to hit back at critics of their 11-year age gap... they are releasing the ultimate ‘f*** you’ track.

The Kooks frontman and his singersongwriter wife are using their record Don’t Judge to hit back at those who judged them harshly for hooking up.

In a Mr & Mrs catch-up with Guilty Pleasures, Naïve singer Luke, 35, said: ‘The chorus is such a universal “f*** you” lyric. I thought it was really powerful.’

The record, their first joint EP and video, drops tomorrow and Ellie added: ‘Don’t Judge is kind of a “mind your own business” song. Luke had the lyric, “Don’t judge our love”, which was quite prominent to us at the time.’

Adding that she had been attacked for her ‘reputation’, she said that when they first met: ‘We had a bit of an age gap. A bit of drama. I was 20. I wasn’t that young though, I think it was more the dynamic.’

Luke concurred: ‘We got a bit of a tough time... there were a few frowns. The song is quite sensual. Ellie wanted to make a bit of a

statement. People are just waiting to hate. We live in that world where we are waiting for someone to say something, which is a really f***ed-up thing. People will judge you anyway.’ Ellie has no qualms about airing their dirty laundry on the EP. ‘There is something quite sexy about being vulnerable,’ she explained. ‘People are so ready to put you on the chopping block. It’s like, “Put yourself there first”.’

The collaboration came about after they tried to record a festive song for his nan during their first Christmas as a couple. ‘The Christmas song was really bad,’ admitted Ellie. ‘Although his gran liked it!’

With their EP the first part of an ongoing project, Luke feels the pair have beaten the odds when it comes to couples working together. He quipped: ‘We haven’t killed each other and we made some good music. It’s a wonderful thing.’

HUGH GRANT has been getting in touch with his creative side during lockdown. The 60-year-old, who has five kids, spilled: ‘I started by cutting my daughter’s Barbie’s hair out of sheer boredom, and I discovered I was extremely talented.’

IRON MAN Robert Downey Jr has leapt to the defence of Guardians Of The Galaxy star Chris Pratt, 41, after a survey of fans branded him the ‘worst Hollywood Chris’. Robert, 55, insisted his pal is no Pratt, but ‘a real Christian’.

LILY JAMES can’t catch a break after her tactile Italian holiday with married actor Dominic West. After she cancelled a string of interviews, TV critics have dubbed her new movie Rebecca as ‘passionless’ and ‘vacuous’.
