Record rise in redundancies before second lockdown
REDUNDANCIES hit a record high between July and September – before the second lockdown, the Office for National Statistics reports. About 314,000 were logged, up 181,000 from the quarter before. This means unemployment was 4.8 per cent – 1.62million people. About 33,000 dropped from payrolls last month, adding to 782,000 since the pandemic began in March.
