Lockdown sees ‘limited evidence’ of stockpiling

-

A RECORD 5.9million shoppers bought food online last month but there is ‘limited evidence’ the new lockdown has led to panic buying.

Overall UK grocery sales jumped by 9.3 per cent to £29.4billion during the 12 weeks to November 1, according to analysts Kantar.

But initial data for this month suggests people have been more worried about buying Christmas presents than stocking up on toilet roll. Footfall at toy stores was more than double pre-Covid levels from Monday to Wednesday last week, before the England-wide lockdown began on Thursday.
