Untested IT ‘will cause huge Brexit port delays’
BUSINESS chiefs have warned of the risk of widespread disruption at Channel ports after Brexit because IT systems will not work.
They fear checks on goods entering and leaving the UK from Kent after January 1 will take far longer under the new Customs Declarations Service (CDS).
Des Hiscock, director general of the UK Association for International Trade, told a Lords select committee the results could be catastrophic, warning that the ‘untested, incomplete’ system will take ‘45 minutes longer to complete a CDS declaration’.
