Three on trial over Spanish terror attacks

-

A TRIO of suspected terrorists have gone on trial over two deadly attacks in Catalonia that killed 16 and injured around 140.

Spaniard Houli Chemlal,

23, and Moroccan Driss Oukabir (pictured), 31, are accused of belonging to the cell behind the atrocities, whose perpetrators were all shot dead by police.

Moroccan Said Ben

Iazza, 27, is accused of collaborating with the cell. The terror outrages saw a van used to knock down walkers on Barcelona’s Las Ramblas boulevard on August 17, 2017, before car and knife attacks were staged the next day in nearby Cambrils. Daesh claimed responsibility. Chemlal told police the cell had intended bomb attacks but altered its plans after an explosion at a house members stayed in on the eve of the first atrocity. The trial continues at Spain’s High Court.
