EU snubs Putin’s conference on refugee return

AN INTERNATIONAL conference on the return of refugees to Syria is being boycotted by the EU. The two-day meeting observed by the UN, which starts today, was organised by Russia after president Vladimir Putin said parts of Syria were mostly peaceful after a nine-year war. But EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said the priority should be to create ‘conditions for safe, voluntary, dignified and sustainable return of refugees’.
