CATS – THEY’RE SO UNPROFESSIONAL

Never work with children or animals – Charles Martin Smith clearly never got that memo. The actor turned director has made several animal-starring films, including A Dog’s Way Home and Dolphin Tale. Now he’s adding cats to his movie menagerie with A Christmas Gift From Bob.

‘Dogs are much easier,’ he laughs, ‘because they know they want to please you and they try to do that, whereas cats [say], “We will do it if we feel like.”’

With all these animal experiences, Smith has come to understand that unshakeable bond between owner and pet.

‘When they love you, they really love you, and that connection is really strong,’ he says. ‘For so many people, their animals are as precious to them as any child.’

It’s why he thinks people fall for Bowen and the beautiful Bob. As he put it: ‘The devotion between the two of them is as great as any love story in any movie ever.’
