Bavarian auteur Werner Herzog and his existentially pitiless voiceovers have become the stuff of parody. Look online for hilarious spoofs of him narrating everything from cute cat videos and Where’s Wally? to The Mandalorian.
To Herzog, nature is uncaring and violent, and misery envelops us. This is a man who asked an Antarctic expert: ‘Is there such a thing as insanity amongst penguins?’ in 2007’s

Encounters At The End Of The World. So we’re on familiar ground with this eccentric doc that investigates the fiery meteorites that smash into Earth, threatening to obliterate humanity.
Sadly, Herzog himself remains behind the camera here but he focuses it on some fabulously curious individuals, ranging from an aboriginal seer to Norway’s most famous jazz musician and micrometeorite collector. It’s hit-and-miss stuff but, at its best, you get to see our crazy, wonderful world through new eyes. LI-Z
