Mason takes no notice of his keyboard critics

-

MASON MOUNT has claimed he is not bothered by the stick he gets on social media about his performances for club or country.

The Chelsea and England midfielder is part of Gareth Southgate’s squad preparing for tomorrow’s friendly against the Republic of Ireland.

Despite scoring the Three Lions’ winner, albeit via a big deflection, against the world’s No.1 side Belgium at Wembley last month, Mount has had to endure criticism, including suggestions he is one of the favourite players for both Southgate and Blues manager Frank Lampard.

‘I’m not really one to look too much into social media. I know it’s big in football now, particularly when the fans are not at the games, people are commenting a lot when watching matches,’ he said.

‘It doesn’t really bother me that much – my focus is on playing football and what I’m doing on the pitch and trying to be the best I can. [I’m] blocking out everything else that comes with it and a lot of things do come with being a footballer.’

The 21-year-old also insisted he and Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish can play in the same England team, despite the theory they are competing for one spot.

‘The comparison is probably not just, me and Jack do different things. We’re focused on what we’re doing and hopefully everyone can work together.’

‘The most important thing is winning games. I’ve said before I don’t mind where I play, I will always want to work as hard as I can for the team and for the manager.’
