Tiger still shedding tears of joy over comeback triumph

-

TIGER WOODS admitted yesterday thinking about his incredible Masters win last year still makes him emotional.

Woods gave sport one of its great redemption stories when he claimed a 15th major title at Augusta, two years after he feared a number of injuries would end his career.

Reflecting on that success, Woods said: ‘I’m still getting chills just thinking about it. To see my family there, my mum and kids, all the people that helped support me and who were there for me during the tough times.

‘I was walking up there trying not to lose it, saying, “I’ve still got to two-putt this”. At the back of the green, to see (his son) Charlie there, and just open up his arms, it meant a lot to me and still does. It reminded me so much of me and my dad. To come full circle like that still (makes me) a little teary.’

Woods was inevitably asked his views on tournament favourite Bryson DeChambeau. The 44-year-old said: ‘We’ve all been amazed at what he’s been able to do in such a short span of time. It’s never been done before.’

On Lee Elder, the first African American to play at the Masters, being an honorary starter for 2021, Woods added: ‘To have him here yesterday, to see him and have him as our honorary starter, it’s awfully special and important for the history of the event.’
